After years of writing about comedy, Amma decided to take to the stage – on the nudge of a dare set for her by her podcast co-hosts. In the years since, she’s developed an “anxious Black nerd” persona that creates a unique take on current events, life as a thirtysomething, and pop culture. Her strong writing and attentive timing have allowed her to work with comics like Eric Andre (Adult Swim, ABC), Jay Jurden (
The Problem with Jon Stewart), Leslie Liao (Netflix), and Mia Jackson (Comedy Central). In addition to performing regularly in the New England area, she appears as a recurring panelist on The
Great Pop Culture Debate podcast (#AmmaWasRight). She recently reached a major career milestone: headlining Boston’s storied
Nick’s Comedy Stop in 2023 and 2024.
As a producer, she’s a co-founder of
New Normal Boston, a comedy collective dedicated to uplifting traditionally underrepresented comedians through shows, mics, and workshops; and is the former producer of Pantry Raid Comedy (2021-2024), an online comedy show
hosted on Comedy Hub that allows comedians to share their favorite jokes – and their strongest food-based opinions.
